Abstract

  • The total workforce in August 2021 was 6.26 million people, an increase of 47.42 thousand people compared to August 2020. Meanwhile, the Labor Force Participation Rate (TPAK) decreased by 0.69 percentage points.
  • The August 2021 Open Unemployment Rate (TPT) was 8.98 percent, down 1.66 percentage points compared to August 2020.
  • The working population was 5.69 million people, an increase of 146.17 thousand people from August 2020. Employment fields that experienced the largest percentage increase were the Wholesale and Retail Trade Sector; Car and Motorcycle Repair and Maintenance (0.67 percentage point). Meanwhile, the sector that experienced the largest decline was the Other Services Sector (1.80 percentage point).
  • A total of 2.78 million people (48.87 percent) worked in informal activities, down 0.31 percentage point compared to August 2020.
  • The percentage of underemployed decreased by 1.70 percentage points, while the percentage of part-time workers increased by 1.97 percentage points compared to August 2020.
  • There are 1.22 million people (12.45 percent of the working age population) affected by COVID-19. Consists of unemployment due to COVID-19 (99.85 thousand people), Non-Work Force (BAK) due to COVID-19 (36.01 thousand people), temporarily not working due to COVID-19 (55.33 thousand people), and residents workers who experienced reduced working hours due to COVID-19 (1.03 million people).
